What is Botox/Dysport?
At Nue Aesthetics Timaru, we specialize in appearance medicine aimed at reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, as well as addressing persistent headaches. Our preferred product is Dysport, with Botox available upon request. Both contain botulinum toxin A and work similarly by blocking nerve-to-muscle pathways to prevent contractions, resulting in smoother skin and diminished wrinkles.
We understand concerns about achieving a natural look and offer personalized consultations with Gemma to ensure subtle, yet effective results. Treatments can be tailored to your comfort level, with the option to start small to gauge the outcome. However, it’s important to note that if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an egg protein allergy, these treatments may not be suitable for you. Let’s discuss your options during your consultation for a safe and tailored approach to your aesthetic journey.
If it’s your first time trying Dysport or Botox, we typically recommend a follow-up at 4 months, followed by treatments every 6 months thereafter. While you might notice some slight movement returning to previously treated areas, it should be less pronounced. However, if you prefer to maintain a completely smooth appearance, you may opt for treatments every 4 months. Additionally, there’s growing interest in a small study indicating that taking a vitamin C and zinc supplement could potentially enhance the effects of botulinum toxin protein.
Following the procedure, the most commonly reported issue is a temporary headache or a feeling of heaviness in the brow, typically lasting a few hours. While there’s a slight risk of bruising, especially around the eyes, it can typically be concealed with makeup. Additionally, you might notice minor pinpoint redness at the injection site, which usually subsides within a few minutes.
- Refrain from rubbing the treated area to avoid dispersing the injected solution.
- Avoid lying down for the next 2 to 3 hours after treatment to prevent migration of the Botox to unintended areas.
- Steer clear of engaging in heavy cardio activities or yoga immediately following treatment. Instead, opt for brisk walking if you feel the urge to exercise.
- On the following day, you may resume your normal schedule of activities, but refrain from any activities that involve significant strain or pressure on the treated muscles. Additionally, avoid excessive heat exposure, such as saunas or hot tubs, as it may affect the efficacy of the treatment.
This procedure typically requires just a 30-minute appointment, which can conveniently be scheduled on the same day as your initial consultation, provided time permits. While the full effects of the treatment may take up to 21 days to manifest, some individuals may notice improvements within as little as 2 to 3 days after the procedure.
